PHILADELPHIA, USA – [OnlyInPhiladelphia.com] – Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is the latest world-famous artist to be featured in an exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art from Feb. 24 through April 25.

Entitled “Picasso and the Avant-Garde in Paris,” the exhibit will feature Picasso’s work during the decades between 1905-1945, his most creative and inventive time. The exhibition will display Picasso’s work as he experimented with abstract art, as well as Cubism, Surrealism, and other movements. A highlight of the exhibit is the role that the city of Paris played regarding modern art in the early twentieth century, as Picasso served as an inspiration for a number of artists during this time, as they moved to Paris, a city known for its culture and romance. Some of these artists include Jacques Lipchitz, Marc Chagall, Man Ray, and Patrick Henry Bruce. In all, a total of 214 works will be on display, including paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. A major highlight not to be missed is Picasso’s world-renowned painting, “Three Musicians” (1921).

Sponsors of the exhibition include GlaxoSmithKline, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, The Pew Charitable Trusts, NBC10 WCAU, Philadelphia Visitors and Convention Bureau, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, and Amtrak, as well as the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News, and Philly.com.

This exhibit is the latest at the museum, joining the likes of Dali and Cezanne from years past (of which I was a spectator). As a fan of fine and modern art, I’m looking forward to experiencing what this exhibit has to offer.
