NEW JERSEY, USA—(OiP)— By now it had been reported numerous times that New Jersey is home to the most restrictive of the 14 current states that have passed medical marijuana laws.
Former Gov. Corzine signed one of his last laws making New Jersey the fourteenth state to legalize medical pot on Monday, January 19th but allegedly the strictest passed in the nation thus far.
Thirteen more states are expected to pass their own medical cannabis laws by the end of 2010, and also D.C.
3 Reasons the Garden State’s Medical Cannabis Law Differs
- The law does NOT allow patients from growing cannabis or ‘grow-ops’ in their own homes
- Patients are restricted to two ounces (56.69 grams) of usable marijuana per month. This is less than other states, for instance, Michigan allows two and a half ounces, three ounces in Oregon and as high as eight ounces in California.
- The medical cannabis law in N.J. is for people suffering from a “debilitating medical condition,”; the law ignores chronic pain sufferers, or people with neuropathic pain (damage or dysfunction of the nervous system), amputations or spinal surgery.
