March…Let The Madness Begin!
Maybe you took it easy this past weekend, and saved up your energy for the week ahead. If you did…here’s just some of what you missed…
A weekend in the life of…
Friday night started out at Public House for the official after-party for the “America’s Next Top Model” search held in Philadelphia last week. I met some of the USLounges.com staff, the owners of Street Star clothing, a few of my fellow OnlyinPhiladelphia.com writers, and some friends to kick off the weekend. Public House had a nice sized crowd and was the perfect way to kick off Friday night.
From there it was on to Old City where the “Rage On Crew” had booked Derrick Carter to rock the decks at Club 27. Derrick Carter is a house legend and he did not disappoint. In fact, he killed it. He’s probably wanted for murder in Philadelphia right now. The crowd was energized, and even though it was cold and rainy outside, the vibe inside was all fire. For video footage of the night you can check out: http://www.rocphilly.com/derrickcartervideo.html
I was informed that on April 23rd they will be bringing California superstar Donald Glaude to the same venue. I know Donald from back in the late 1990’s and he is not just a stellar DJ but a one-man-party who engages the crowd at every turn. Luckily I will be back from the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California just in time to see him (and stay tuned for some coverage from Coachella next month).
Saturday the weather was miserable but I had work to do. First came lunch at Triumph Brewery in Old City where I had to plan the layout for the second floor art display that will be going up on Tuesday (all my original work). It will be there for at least two months so please pop in and check it out.
Next it was a non-stop day of painting and photo preparation. Running to art supply stores, my art studio, and printing places. Getting 40+ pieces of art work together is no easy task. If it happens to be a dream of yours to be an unpaid assistant for an up and coming artist…you should probably contact me. I won’t hold my breath.
By the time I finished up around 8PM the weather finally calmed down a bit and it was off to McFadden’s on 3rd Street for the 4th annual “McPattysfest” and an evening ending show by “Mr. Greengenes” who took the stage around 10PM in the gigantic tent that had been set up outside next to the venue. The place was packed. The crowd (who had been drinking for hours and hours before I arrived) seemed to love every minute of the show (which was put on in conjunction with Johnny Knockout Entertainment).
At one point I had a conversation with a group of friends who were trying to one-up each other as they argued about which one of them had thrown up on more people since the party started. Stay classy Philadelphia.
If that many people came out on a rainy Saturday…it’ll be interesting to see what happens on the real Irish holiday where it’s expected to be sunny and close to 60 degrees.
Sunday it was back to business and preparing for the coming week which includes art shows, photo shoots, concerts, the greatest sporting event known to man (NCAA men’s tournament), and St. Patrick’s Day. It’s time to shake off those cold, snowy winter months, enjoy the extra hours of daylight and get back in the game.
Have you recovered from the weekend? What do have planned for the upcoming week? How many NCAA brackets have you filled out already? Weigh in Philly!
