OiP —- Today, April 6th, 2010 FanDuel, a social gaming company based in the UK, has partnered with their first US newspaper company, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Philly.com.
The fantasy sports gaming is a attempt to bring gambling to the newspaper industry to generate a much needed revenue in a dying industry. It already has a proven track record in the UK, says HubHub.
FanDuel, which focuses on US sports, offers a different take on the traditional fantasy sports game model. The players play and win in as little as a day.
You would think that the gaming is illegal, but not so in the case of FanDuel, which is exempt due to the fantasy sports carve out in the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act.
In a OiP exclusive interview Randy Notter, former Marketing Director for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com says, “They’re teaming up with FanDuel to bring a “one night stand” fantasy sports betting to the US. Watch for details on how this narrowly legal betting gaming will be marketed and how Phillies fantasy enthusiasts will react. From my early view from the stands, it has the potential to be clear winner. Go Phillies!”
The idea is to bring new revenues that could essentially pull themselves out of recent financial troubles.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN PHILLY!
