A lot has happened in the course of Philadelphia sports over the past week.
The Philadelphia Union lost 1-0 to Manchester United which was a better outcome than the MLS all-stars had against the English Premier League giant last night when they lost 5-2.
The NFL stated that they will not discipline Eagles back-up QB Michael Vick who’s name was in the press again as there was a shooting that took place outside the venue where his birthday celebration took place. Vick, who was cleared of any wrong-doing, was again contrite saying that he knows he is on thin ice and that this is his last chance…didn’t we hear the same thing from him last summer?
The Eagles also open training camp at Lehigh this week and officially begin the Kevin Kolb era. Kolb, Andy Reid, and the Eagles front office will be under close scrutiny this season after they decided to send Donovan McNabb to the Redskins in the off-season.
The Phillies are riding a seven game win streak, their longest this season, and trail the Braves by less than four games in the NL East. Today they pulled off yet another big trade as they acquired ace Roy Oswalt from the Houston Astros for pitcher JA Happ and some prospects. The Astros will pay close to half of Oswalt’s salary this season and next (thanks Ed Wade). With a recent injury to Shane Victorino, it now looks very unlikely that the Phillies will trade away right-fielder Jayson Werth before the Saturday trade deadline.
It looks like August will be a hot one in Philadelphia for the Union, Eagles, and Phillies!
