The Rocky of Baseball

Philadelphia is very fortunate to have such a player as Jamie Moyer, with so much heart and determination, it’s obvious that he is a allstar player on and off the field.  Jamie is a native to the area and offers so much character to the city.  Jamie is currently the oldest active player in the MLB at the age 47.

Jamie Moyer (born November 18, 1962 in Sellersville, Pennsylvania) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. He is currently the oldest active player in the major leagues, has the most wins and strikeouts of any active Major League pitcher, and has been likened to Phil Niekro.

Moyer has pitched for the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies. His most successful seasons were with the Mariners, where he made the All-Star team in 2003. His philanthropy and community service has been well awarded, winning the 2003 Roberto Clemente Award, the 2003 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, the 2003 Hutch Award and the 2004 Branch Rickey Award.

Jamie is married to Karen(the daughter to the former Notre Dame basketball coach and current ESPN sports caster Digg Philips).  They have 8 children, and the youngest was adopted in Gautemala.   Moyer’s son Dillon was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2010 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins.

Jamie and his wife are philanthropists in the Northwest with their work done through the Moyer Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children in severe distress.

Moyer’s pitching is known for its methodical approach to the game and his changeup. He has notes and video recordings on almost every batter that he faces, which he studies before games.

He is a finesse pitcher, rather than a power pitcher, throwing a four-seam fastball from 79 to 82 miles per hour with late movement, a circle changeup, a cut fastball, a curveball and a two-seam fastball.

Jamie’s career highlights:

  • Win-Loss 267-202
  • Earned run average 4.22
  • Strikeouts 2,401
  • World Series champion (2008)

We give Jamie a standing ovation for his true athletics to the Phillies organization and crown him the “Rocky Of Philadelphia” for his determination to his team, family and city!
