PHILADELPHIA, PA — As we approach the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 tragedy, there is a growing movement across the country to observe this event as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. The City of Philadelphia intends to honor this movement through a month long series of service initiatives and events designed to encourage a year‐round… commitment to civic engagement and volunteer service.
To kick things off, Global Citizen and the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service are hosting the 2nd Annual Citywide Civic Engagement Expo on Wednesday, September 8, 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at City Hall’s Dilworth Plaza. The event will include a noon public ceremony featuring Mayor Nutter, who will lead the City’s call to ongoing call service. Following the news conference, the Mayor will spend time greeting the organizations and volunteers who make Philadelphia a great place to live, work, play and learn.
Now, more than ever, there is need for citizens to take part in volunteer efforts designed to address Philadelphia’s most pressing needs. We hope you will join us on September 8th in responding to that need.
If your organization has ongoing volunteer opportunities, register for a FREE table online at http://volunteerexpo.questionpro.com/
Want to volunteer? Come to the event on Wednesday, September 8 from 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
