Sixers on a roll to start the season, young teams will benefit from shortened season.

Young legs and good defense are just a couple of reasons why the Philadelphia
76ers are sitting on top of the Atlantic Division this early in the season.
Other reasons include the reemergence of Elton Brand and the tough inside play of Spencer Hawes,
along with the always stellar point guard play of Jrue Holiday. The bench
might be as important as any component. They might have the best
one two pinch off the bench with Young and Williams who are both under 25.
Even though the season is still young, your 76ers are creating a buzz around
the NBA teams are circling the game they play the Sixers.

Attention Philadelphia: Baseball All-Star and World Series champion Jimmy Rollins will be knocking baseballs over Benjamin Franklin Parkway for Red Bull Ball Park Cranks.

Clear your lunch hour because we’re not just talking home runs here…Rollins is aiming beyond the typical stadium distance and looking to hit a massive 550-foot bomb — or the distance of almost two football fields.

Not stopping there, Rollins will also attempt to break the current Guinness World Record for ‘Longest Batted Ball’, which currently stands at 576 feet. The record is for the greatest distance one individual can hit a batted baseball in a legal manner with no restriction on equipment.

Rollins is encouraging his fellow Philadelphians to stop by to witness the science, the technology, the talent, the strength, or to just see their favorite professional athlete really hit it out of the park…and over a highway.

Eagles Fire McDermott and Seacrest

Sean McDermott and Rory Seacrest have both been fired off the Philadelphia Eagles defensive staff. McDermott lost his defensive coordinator job after the season-ending loss to The Green Bay Packers. The defense allowed three red zone touchdowns in the loss to the packers, and had the worst red zone percentage since the 1988 Houston Oilers. The secondary also allowed the second most passing touchdowns in the NFL. McDermott’s schemes and packages failed to work throughout the season as failed attempts at blitzing allowed receivers to run amuck in the secondary. I can still see Kenny Britt and Hakeem Nicks running up and down the field, and Aaron Rodgers sidestepping defenders and finding open receivers time and time again.

Rory Seacrest lost his defensive line job after a lack luster year by the veteran players. Juqua Parker had only two sacks after week three, and pro bowl defensive end Trent Cole had only three sacks in his final eight games. Don’t forget about Chris Clemons and Jason Babin. These two players were released from the Eagles roster last year and went on to make the pro bowl this season. Rookie players Brandon Graham looked lost and small on the field before suffering a season ending injury. The interior line had problems stopping the run especially in the playoff game against Green Bay.

Injuries too many key players like Nate Allen, Stewart Bradley, Ellis Hobbs, Asante Samuel, Brandon Graham forced many young players to step in and produce. It’s never a good thing when you have two seventh round rookie draft picks starting for most of the season. Injuries did play a key role in the performance of the defense, but the coaches are expected to find a way to prevail. Obviously they didn’t. Whatever happened to the physical intimidating defense that The Eagles used to be known for? If all else failed we used to be able to fall back on our defense and watch them make big plays to help us win games.

The passing of Jim Johnson and the release of Brian Dawkins was the beginning of the. When the legendary defensive coordinator passed away. McDermott had big shoes to fill. He used the same schemes, but it just wasn’t the same. There was no fire or heart that was always present in the past. Maybe he should have tried his own scheme. McDermott did not have the personnel to run the same style defense, and that eventually led to his downfall.

Releasing Brian Dawkins was the biggest mistake possible. It was like giving away the heart of the defense, and we were left without a real leader. Every game Dawk played there was this passion and desire in his voice. He led that defense on the field like soldiers into battle. Hopefully the future moves Andy Reid will make can bring back what we once all loved. A fresh start might just be what the Eagles defense needs.

Obama Calls Eagles’ Owners To Congratulate For Signing Vick

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Yahoo Sports reports that the Philadelphia Eagles franchise owners received a phone call from Obama congratulating them for signing Michael Vick.

So why didn’t the call come 16 months ago when Lurie had given Vick his second chance? Some think that would have been political suicide, and now that the dust has settled it may have been a political stunt promoting a perfect model of redemption.

Either way, this is great news and well deserved for the city, team and especially Michael Vick. Michael Vick has gone above and beyond his efforts on and off the field.

Forgive to forget, life is too short to hold onto anger. Besides, there will be a time in our lives that we will want to be forgiven, and maybe we should be glad that he was able to be an example for others that happiness can come to those who try hard!

Fourteen seconds remain on the clock as the New York giants line up to punt. You can feel the nervousness of the fans in the new Meadowlands Stadium. What was a 31-10 game with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter was now a tie game. The Eagles led my the electric Micheal Vick had flew their way up and down the feild with huge plays when they counted most. An onside kick catches the Giants by suprise, and Jeremy Macklin’s second touchdown of the day ties the game.

After a big sack by Trevor Laws with 14 seconds reaming, the Giants are forced to punt. The snap comes in high, and young punter Matt Dodge sends it to the Eagles 35 yard line as Desean Jackson works his way under the ball. Why not kick it out of bounds? After a momentary fumble that is quickly scooped up, Jackson takes a few steps back and sees his chance. A small crease opens on the right side as Desean takes it up the feild. After making a few defenders miss ,and a huge block from Jason Avant, Jackson puts the burners on running parallel to the goal line to make sure there are zeroes on the clock when he crosses into the end zone.

In all my years watching the birds I’ve never seen anything like this. The first half was a mess and so was I. The aggravation alone was enough to make me want to stop watching, but like most Eagles fans I held onto a small strand of hope. As our boys in green scratched and clawed their way back into the game, I started to feel it. Brian Westbrook returning a punt for 86 yards in New York found its way into my mind. Can a 21 point lead really be erased in seven minutes? Maybe they can actually do this. Actually they are going to do this!

After the game had ended, I started to think to myself about the miracle I had just witnessed.It was the first time anyone in the National Football League had returned a punt for a touchdown on the final play of the game. A new miracle of sorts, and it will live on in Philadelphia forever. It reminds me of a movie I once watched about a small time boxer from South Philly defying all the odds to beat the champ in the final round of the championship bout. Hey Yo Philly we did it!

The leader of the group, known as “Doc Halladay” or “Mr. Perfect”, has an all around pallet that is tenacious and unmatched throughout the whole league. Cole Hamels plays the role of “The Cool”. Always calm and collected, he shows no emotions and can work his way through the toughest of situations. With a change up that comes undetected he can fool even the toughest of villains.

Don’t forget about Roy Oswalt. You may not hear much from him, but he’s ready to pitch at a moment’s notice. Throwing hard on short rest is something this workhorse has no problem doing. Who knows what he can achieve with a full season in this Phillies rotation. Finally the fan favorite has made his triumphant return to where he has always belonged. Philadelphia’s “what if” scenario of a combination of Halladay and Lee is no longer a dream. His cut fastball mows down competitors at a fierce rate, and he personifies the family oriented, hard working mentality that the people of this city possess.

Now all we can do is wait. Soon enough our heroes will once again be called on to defend this city, and this time they will not fail. It’s going to be a long winter waiting for the Phantastic Four so dream your dreams, enjoy your holidays , and spring training will be here before you know it.
