After winning the wing bowl five times, at age 50, Bill “El Wingador” Simmons, is determined to beat Jonathan “Super Squibb,” who has won the competition the last three years.  Wing Bowl 19 is this Friday, February 3^rd at 6:00 AM located at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.  Last year, El Wingador, 6 foot 5 and 330 pounds, ate 254 wings and was one short to Super Squibb’s plate of 255 and lost.  Everyone is excited to see if El Wingador can keep his reputation as the best Wing Bowl champion.

Get ready to travel back in time! The Franklin Institute is featuring some of the largest animals to roam the planet. The exhibit, Giant Mysterious Dinosaurs, lets visitors get up close with over two dozen enormous skeletons from around the globe. On top of that, visitors have a chance to encounter life sized robotic dinosaurs, and the opportunity to dig in the sand to look for fossils.

On display are exotic dinosaurs ranging from the longest necked animal to ever live, to the world’s largest dinosaur bone ever found. Get ready to be blown away by these rare magnificent giants!

The collection belongs to the world’s top dinosaur collector, Don Lessem. Don has dug up and recreated dinosaurs from all over the world and his enthusiasm for dinosaurs has brought him to help counsel the popular film, Jurassic Park, as well as publish several children’s dinosaur books.

Have you noticed the super modern new building along the parkway lately? That’s the soon-to-be location for the now infamous Barnes Collection. The facility is nearing completion and will soon be a popular spot for tourists and city folk alike. If you’ve seen the acclaimed documentary, The Art of the Steal, you know there was a hefty amount of drama about moving the collection from it’s home in Montgomery County to Center City. Allegedly, there was a lot of shady business among certain city officials, including former mayor John Street, and some hastily appointed officials of the Barnes Foundation. But why is it such a big deal to move the art? Albert Barnes’ had a philosophy about keeping the art available for education rather than a tourist attraction and unfortunately, the move will ruin this concept. But, I think it may have more to do with the millions in tourist revenue the Renoir, Cézanne and Picasso littered collection has the ability to generate. What do you think? Despite the drama, I think I may have to stop and gawk at the new museum after the opening on May 18th.
