There’s a history between the Celtics and 76ers that has been lost in recent years. But with the resurgence of the Sixers team we may be in for one of the best series between the two. The young 76ers squad know they are in for a long, tough series against the battle-tested Celtics. Both games of the series have been decided by one point and have come down to the very end. The Sixers barely squeaked out an 82-81 win over the Celtics in Boston. But what they lack in experience they make up for in energy and confidence.

Sixers coach Doug Collins spoke to reporters after the game “All season long we couldn’t win these games and now our guys are believing they can do it. And it is pretty special to watch.” Later he went on about the teams being so evenly matched. “Tonight was an important night,” Collins said. “I think our players know we can play a close game and win.”

Game 3 is in Philadelphia and the Sixers will look to take advantage. Both teams know what is most likely at stake- a conference finals matchup with the Miami Heat and their feared “Big Three.” But complete focus on the task at at hand will be the ultimate decider of the series. We’ll have to wait and see if this young squad has matured yet.

American Craft Brew Week

Alright beer lovers. With just 17 days before Philadelphia’s Beer Week starts, Craft Beer Weekis here just in time to moisten your palate. DrinkPhilly.com has organized and created events all week long at a number of bars in the area. There will be offers and opportunities to try some of the best small and independent craft beers throughout the city. The week of May 14-20 is a nationwide event organized by the Brewers Association, a national non-profit organization on behalf of a majority of America’s breweries. You’ll find $3 happy hour specials for American craft beers at over 15 bars from 5-7pm. The event will allow brewers, beer-enthusiasts and beer-beginners to get a taste of these limited drafts at a great price.

Go out, have a drink, try something new. That same brew might not be around again.

Made in America, Born in Philadelphia

Finally a festival is coming to Philadelphia! Famous hip-hop producer and rap superstar Jay-Z was joined by Mayor Nutter on Monday morning to announce the Budweiser Made In America Festival. The event, which will take place on Sept. 1 and 2, is set to take over the Ben Franklin Parkway Labor Day Weekend.

Jay-Z made the announcement on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum. The Brooklyn native explained his reasons for creating the event outside his home state. “I have a long relationship and love affair with the city of Philadelphia.” He went on to say his motivation was create a combined experience of an urban environment with the feeling of giant festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo. The rap mogul headlined both festivals in 2010.

According the the hip-hop icon the 25-plus acts will take place on three stages. Even better is that Jay-Z is personally selecting all the artists for what he calls a “very diverse” lineup. Tickets are just $99 and go on sale May 23rd on Livenation.com and Ticketmaster.com. How they will regulate an event taking place in the middle of the city is still to be answered. But one thing for sure- nothing is more American than this.

The Roots 5th Annual Music Festival Picnic

The Roots, Philly’s music legends, announced its 5^th annual line up for its 2012 Roots Picnic music festival at Penn’s Landing. The concert has now expanded from one day to two from Saturday to Sunday. The festival will take place on June 2^nd and 3^rd featuring key artists such as: Kid Cudi, Wale, Diplo, St. Vincent, Danny Brown, Stretch Armstrong, Kids These Days, Star Slinger, DJ Diamond Kuts, Major Lazer, Moosh & Twist, and many more. Ticket had started to go on sale since March 15^th. There were two day passes on sale for $80. The festival every year generally mixes artists who are hip-hop veterans with rising Indie bands. Utley All★Star Animals 5th Anniversary Casino Night

The flagship event of the Utley Foundation, Utley All Star Animals Casino Night is an annual event created by Jennifer and Chase Utley. All funds raised from the evening benefit the Etana Fund at the Pennsylvania SPCA, which helps to support and care for the many victims of animal cruelty, neglect and abuse.

Each year hundreds of people spend the evening playing casino games (yes, you can play with the Phillies players!), bidding on amazing silent and live auction items, and enjoying delicious cocktails and food. 2012 marks the fifth year that Jen and Chase have put on this event and to date the casino nights have raised close to $1 million dollars.

What to do on Cinco de Drinko

Being a huge fan of this holiday, I have compiled a list of bars and restaurants to help you and your amigos celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

1. El Vez & El Rey — Their block party is the Cinco De Mayo Party that everyone will be at — with live music, drinks, street vendors, dancing, and giveaways. It is an all day affiar starting at 12:00PM and ending when you say it ends! After the block party be sure to check out El Rey for the strolling mariachi band, awesome tequila specials, and their every day happy hour, “Uno, Dos, Tres, Quattro” from 5 to 6:30PM featuring $1 tacos, $2 Tecates, $3 Coronas and $4 classic margaritas.

Tickets get you access to a ton of different bars in Olde City, Midtown Village, University City, Northern Liberties and Rittenhouse Square, with drink specials on themed beverages such as Dos Equis, Coronas, margaritas, mojitos and of course tequila. Colin Farrell and Terrance Howard are here in Philadelphia filming their next huge action thriller, Dead Man Down right outside of our office! Walnut Street between 17th and 18th will be shut down from 6:00 AM to approximately 9:00 PM on Wednesday May 2nd, Thursday May 3rd, Friday May 4th, and Monday May 7th.

The Fairmount Arts Crawl Returns for its Annual Debut!

Sunday, April 29th the Fairmount Arts Crawl will be making its 8th annual debut, transforming the Fairmount neighborhood once again into a mecca of arts, music, and dancing. The event will be held at over 40 restaurants, cafes, and storefronts located between 22nd and Fairmount Avenue. More than 70 installations ranging from photography, sculpture, painting, and print making will be featured from local artists. New to the crawl this year will be Artists Alley, located between 22nd Street between Fairmount and Aspen. The Alley will be the centerpiece of the event, functioning as a hub for the festivities.

Neighborhood venues like Fare, Bishop’s Collar, Bridgid’s, and Lifesportwill also be featuring live music throughout the day.

You also won’t want to miss out on the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s guided tours of The Secret Garden exhibition at the Perelman Building, and a make-and-take workshop inspired by the exhibition.

Blue Moon, an official sponsor of the 2012 Fairmounts Arts Crawl, will also have their signature muralist there to assist festival attendees create a new piece of Blue Moon art spotlighting the artistic approach they bring to brewing.
